Progress since last week

I have now found suitable sound effects for the Carnival Skittle advert, however after putting them into Adobe Premiere, I felt that some of the crowd noises were overpowering the soundtrack, therefore we decided to only keep the sound effect of the engine as it blended in better with the soundtrack. We didn't want to lose all of the sound effects as sound effects was an integral part of this advert. We have also completed the voice over for all of the adverts and exported all of the adverts from Adobe Premiere.

Voice overs

When recording the voice overs for the Carnival and Wild Berry advert, we decided to use a femal vocal as we felt it would be more soft. However the quality of the microphone was poor and the voice over sounded crackly, therefore we decided to record the voice overs again. However, this time use a male vocal as the Tropical advert used a male vocal, although we decided to record new voice overs for all of the adverts. We decided to use a male vocal as it was more domineering and powerful.

Wild Berry advert progress

The Wild Berry advert now only needs a voice over for the final clip, we decided not to include sound effects for this advert, as we would then lose continuity between all three adverts as the Tropical advert doesn't contain any sound effects. Therefore, although all of the adverts are similar and follow specific convention, they also differentiate to make them less repetitive and boring. We also felt that the beggining two clips of the storyboard weren't needed as we felt it would be more beneficial if all three adverts begun with a mid shot to engage the audience and establish the setting.

Carnival Skittles advert

I have now re shot and edited all of the Carnival clips, I have also imported the soundtrack for the advert. I now need to search for relevant sound effects of the crowd and the engines of the floats. I also need to record voice overs, for the end clip, we feel the lack of voice overs helps for the soundtrack to match the action; but also to make it less compact as sound effects, voice overs and the soundtrack at the same time would make it hard for our young demographic to concentrate and take in the advert.

Progress with Wild Berry advert

Wild Berry advert has now been completed, however after analysing the advert, we feel some changes need to be made. One of which was that the 'introducing' typography in each freeze frame wasn't needed, as it made it too clammy, therefore we decided to have 'introducing' in the first freeze frame but in the other just the name of the flavour so it wasn't repetitive and boring. We also felt that the soundtrack (The troggs- Wild thing) needed to be razored on Adobe Premiere in a different place, enabling the lyrics to match the action.

Progess with Carnival Skittle advert

After finishing editing the Carnival Skittle advert I felt on some of the clips the lighting was poor, and therefore needing to be re shot. Therefore, this week I will re shoot and edit clips 3, 4 and 5. I believe the lighting differentiates due to the change in environment where filming, however I will try to overcome this problem and get the lighting as similar as possible. I have also searched for numerous soundtracks, but I still feel the 'Old fairground mix' on Youtube will be the best match. Therefore I will import that also this week into Adobe Premiere.

Progress with Wild Berry advert

Kelsey has now edited all of the clips for the Wild Berry advert, but still waiting for a camera to film the last clip, as her advert only lasted roughly 18 seconds, we felt the clips she had already filmed and edited could be slowed down in order to make it longer. We also felt that a clip was needed of all the skittles together before the final clip of them jumping into the packet. Therefore, before the last clip, there will be a clip of all of the skittles jumping up and dancing.

Changes for Carnival Skittles advert

I have now filmed all of the clips for the Carnival Skittles advert, and begun editing them. However, in order to not lose continuity between all three adverts, I have decided to not freeze the clips; similarly to the Wild Berry Skittles advert, as then the Tropical Skittles advert would not fit in with the other two. Therefore, I am going to concentrate more on the sound effects for this advert to differentiate it from the other two but not lose continuity.

Advert 3

I have already filmed several clips for advert 3 (Carnival Skittles), however, I am going to re-shoot clips in order to freeze each clip so the audience is able to read the writing. I have also found a variety of possible soundtracks and once the clips have been edited and put into premiere I can then see which one will fit best. Advert 2 (Wild Berry Skittles) is also progressing as it has now been edited and just the final scene needs filming. However, advert 2 only lasts roughly 18 seconds and therefore we will need to shoot more clips in order to make it a longer length. I feel that progress has been limited this week as there is a lack of macs and cameras, as we rely on a specific mac it is vital that we can book it out as we only need to edit the clips.

Progress

In order to save time, Kelsey and I split up to concentrate fully on individual adverts, as we was begining to fall behind. This was because we failed to follow our shooting schedule, due to the lack of equipment. Advert 1 (Tropical Skittles) has now been completed, however after all adverts have been completed, we may go back to perfect specific parts.

Progress since last week

Today is the deadline for all three adverts, however so far we only have 1 advert and some of the second advert. I feel that we haven't met the deadline because we haven't been committed enough to our work, also as our advert takes a longer process to complete than others, and therefore when having to re-shoot clips it also means re-editing aswell which is the long part. However, by the end of next week I hope to have completed all adverts.

Ad 1

After showing Mr Michie, our advert 1 we have come to the conclusion that the camel clips need to be re-shot as they are jumpy, which I have now done. In addition to this, the final clip of the skittles packet is more of a grey colour than white and we will therefore complete this shot using adobe and motion tween the skittles, giving the clip a higher quality. As well as this, I have also begun filming advert 3, the carnival skittles. I feel progress has been limited this week due to lack of equipment, however I have booked equipment for next week enabling me to completely focus on the advert.

Progress since the start of my coursework

Since the start of my coursework I have progressed significantly, however at the beginning of our coursework my progress was limited. This was due to the programme which we used to film, frame by frame, which I was unfamiliar with and therefore it took me a long time to develop my skills. Although after completing advert 1 I now have a greater understanding using different programmes such as frame by frame, adobe premiere and adobe flash which will help decrease the amount of time it takes to complete advert 2 and 3 as I feel I have mastered them. In addition to this, I have also learnt which angles the lamps need to be in order for shadows not to be visible as well as setting up the camera to the Mac, using the Mac to capture footage. However, I believe my progress would be more effective if our organisation was better as I feel we do not follow our shooting schedule enough. I have also learnt that I would work better individually as then the whole of my work would be my responsibility. In the future I will be more organised and follow the shooting schedule enabling me to progress quicker.

Tuesday, 17 February 2009

advert 1

I have now finished advert 1, however I am having difficulty uploading the file. We again didn't meet the deadline for advert 2 as I feel we don't follow the shooting schedule enough. In addition to this, I have also taken all of the equipment home to enable me more time to focus on the adverts instead of just completing it at school.

Problems

Due to a shortage in macs and cameras we have found it hard to film advert 1 and 2. However, now we have the equipment instead of Kelsey and I using different macs we are going to share allowing us to deffinately have a mac when needed. I don't believe that we will meet Mr Michie's deadline for the second advert, however over the half term we will shoot the rest of advert 2, receive Mr Michie's feedback and then re-shoot and change any clips that is needed.

Problem

After filming the clips again, I feel that the clip of the skittles together dancing around the fire is too fast, Kelsey tried to slow down the clip but failed as when the clip was saved it was incompatable to use in premiere, therefore I am going to re-shoot the skittles dancing again using less frames per second and them dance in a different routine enabling the clip to look slower.
